Hellenic Heritage

Aiming to offer an authentic Hellenic experience to its guests, the Vision Omonia lobby and interiors have been attentively designed, in order to capture the essence of Hellenic Civilization through and beyond time, by implementing the unique concept of the famous avant garde Greek artist and designer, Kirios Criton.

Always on the cutting edge of artistic expression – as evidenced by his long, multi-faceted and often provocatively ahead of his time career – Kyrios Criton devised an artistic identity for the hotel: He has curated a genuine art collection, handpicking original works by contemporary Greek artists for each room; thus, he succeeded to infuse the hotel’s interior with Hellenic spirit, rather than simply decorating it with it, hence creating the “Hellenic Heritage” installation.

In the words of the creator:

“Time is an invention of human imagination. The stairs symbolize the beginning, the eternal journey and the destination of Greek history through Time. My visual art installation, entitled “Hellenic Heritage”, starts from the entrance – more specifically from the starting step of the staircase, and unfolds to its ending, with the statue of goddess Venus placed there. (Venus, the goddess of absolute beauty –a copy of the original statue of Venus de Milo (or, Aphrodite of Milos) at the Louvre Museum).

Right from her back, a blue ladder is growing up, symbolically reaching the always blue sky of Attica. This symbolic staircase, within the existing stairwell at the heart of the building, functions as a beacon of culture. Because, at intervals, it brings light to guide you through the journey, step by step.

On Venus’ back, a metal ‘memory mailbox’ has been elaborately fitted, as a reference to the backpacks of the travelers. The art installation continues to unfold at the back of the stairwell, in the Atrium. Located here, the Twelve Olympians (whom with you have visual contact, from the openings of the stairwell and from the windows of several rooms) are hanging vertically from above, in the form of prints on aluminum panels floating in space. In blue tones, with the technique of pointillism, they give a special aspect of ‘vision’ towards Mount Olympus. These are the Twelve Gods and two Demigods (Dionysus and Pan). The Gods appear once more on the back of the elevator, as a ‘reminder’ to guests who choose it over the stairs. The ‘Hellenic Heritage,’ as a RECEPTION artwork at the entrance of Vision Omonia, is the guest’s initiation to my philosophy: ‘Be Authentic in Greece with… Vision”.
